An Amazon baby registry takes a few minutes to create, and the timing matters more than most guides say. Here’s how to set one up on a computer or the app, how to qualify for the free Welcome Box and the 15% completion discount, and the date to start so you don’t miss the discount window.
Quick answer: to create an Amazon baby registry, go to Amazon’s baby registry page, click “Create your registry,” sign in or create an Amazon account, and follow the on-screen steps. Then add items with “Add to Registry,” set your privacy, and share the link with family and friends.

How to create an Amazon baby registry, step by step
You can start on a computer or in the Amazon app. Both lead to the same registry.
On a computer
- Sign in to your Amazon account (or create one).
- Hover over Account & Lists at the top right, and under “Your Lists” click Find a List or Registry.
- Click Create a registry or gift list, then choose I’m welcoming a baby.
- Follow the on-screen steps to finish your registry details.
- Start adding items: on any product page, click Add to Registry & Gifting and pick your registry.
Shortcut: the button above goes straight to Amazon’s baby registry page, where “Create your registry” starts the same steps.
In the Amazon app
- Tap the menu icon (three lines) at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Gifting & Registry, then Registry & Gift List.
- Choose to create a registry and follow the steps.
- To add an item, scroll down on its product page, tap Add to Registry & Gifting and choose your registry.
These menu names come from Amazon’s own how-to. Amazon updates its menus now and then, so if a name has changed, look for the closest match.

Amazon baby registry benefits
Here’s every perk Amazon lists on its baby registry page, and what it takes to get each one.
| Perk | What you get | Who gets it |
|---|---|---|
| Welcome Box | A free gift box with sample and full-size items for parents and baby | Prime members who meet 3 conditions (below) |
| Completion discount | 15% off registry items, up to $300 in savings | The primary registrant, in a set window (below) |
| Free 1-year returns | Return eligible gifts bought from your registry for up to 365 days | Registry gifts |
| Group gifting | Several people can chip in on one big item, like a stroller or car seat | Items you turn it on for |
| Diaper fund | Guests contribute toward diapers; the money goes to your Amazon gift card balance | If you add one |
| Gift tracker | See who bought what and track thank-you notes | Every registry |
How to get the Amazon baby registry Welcome Box
The Welcome Box is free, but it isn’t automatic. Amazon’s registry page says you need all four of these:
- An active Amazon Prime membership.
- A baby registry.
- At least 10 different items added to it.
- Over $10 of purchases from your registry, bought by you or by anyone else.
The easy way to qualify: add 10 things you need anyway, then buy one of them yourself from your registry, such as a box of diapers or a pack of burp cloths over $10. You don’t have to wait for the shower.
The 15% completion discount: when to start your registry
The completion discount takes 15% off items on your registry, up to $300 in savings. That cap means the full 15% applies to up to $2,000 of items. Two rules decide when you can use it:
- Your registry must be active for at least 14 days.
- The primary registrant can use it from 60 days before the baby’s arrival date to 90 days after.
Put those together and you get the date that matters: create your registry at least 74 days before your due date so the discount is ready the day the window opens. For a 40-week due date, that’s around 29 weeks pregnant.
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| 74+ days before due date (about 29 weeks) | Create the registry and add items |
| 60 days before due date | The 15% completion discount window opens |
| After the shower | Use the discount on what’s left: the big items guests didn’t buy |
| 90 days after the arrival date | The discount window closes |
What to add to your Amazon baby registry
Amazon has its own registry checklist sorted by category. It’s long, so start with the things you’ll use every day.
- The must-haves first: our baby registry must-haves list has 21 picks by room, each checked on Amazon US, plus the items safety experts say to skip.
- Something at every price: guests on a small budget need options under $15, like a bottle brush or a rectal thermometer.
- Group gifting for the big ones: turn it on for items like the infant car seat or a travel system, so several guests can share the cost.
- Tag your most wanted gifts so guests see them first.
- Add a diaper fund for guests who would rather give money.

How to share your Amazon baby registry
- Open your registry and click Share (the arrow icon at the top right).
- Copy the link, or share it by email or on social media.
- In Settings, add your baby shower date and a greeting that appears at the top of your registry.
- Also in Settings, choose your privacy setting and click “Save Changes.” Guests can only find a registry by name if it’s public.
Once someone buys a gift, Amazon marks it “Purchased” for anyone viewing the registry, so you won’t get three of the same bouncer.
How to find someone’s Amazon baby registry

- Search by the parent’s name.
- Open their registry and buy from it, so the gift is marked as purchased.
Can’t find it? The registry is probably not set to public. Ask the parents-to-be for their registry link.
